Fontvieille is a truly authentic Provençal village with lovely old streets, ancient wells and typical local houses boasting beautiful pergolas…  The village owes its charm to its history, heritage and culture. The Moulin de Daudet and the breathtaking Avenue of century-old pine trees are without doubt the highlights of the village.

Fontvieille manages to perfectly combine modernity and authentic traditions providing a simply exceptional quality of life to locals and visitors alike.  The village is located just over the hill from the castle ruin at Les Baux.  The Valley is home to the stunning Alpilles with its 30,000 hectares of pine forests and Provençal garrigue.

Shops, doctor and bank are only a quick stroll away from the property (100m / 328ft), the nearest supermarket is only 300m (984ft) away.  The village hosts a beautiful Provençal market twice a week.

Discover the Region:

Fontvieille, immortalized by Alphonse Daudet in his famous book "Les Lettres de mon Moulin", is ideally located with easy access to all the beautiful towns and villages of this wonderful corner of Provence. Les Baux de Provence with its Medieval castle ruin and the ancient past of Saint Rémy de Provence are just a short drive away. Arles, Fontvieille, the wild Camargue (20 km) or the Crau and its semi desert plain (15 km) are within easy access.

A little further away, Le Pays Salonnais (30 km), the Luberon (50 km), Aix en Provence and its surrounding villages as well as the stunning Blue Coast, La Côte Bleue (70 km).

Throughout the year Fontvieille’s tempo is punctuated by many colourful as well as gourmet Provençal traditions. The traditional Alphonse Daudet festival, traditional costume parades, Horse Fair, Mill Festival, traditional Camargue races, Provençal creche, the Pastrage (last born lamb offering ceremony), the Santons Fair and the Village fair, to name but a few… Less traditional, but just as important, the Course de Côte Arles (Arles car race) - Fontvieille – Barbegal.

The Tourist Office offers guided tours to discover the past and present life of the people in the Alpilles as well as their culture :  Barbegal Aqueducts and Mill, La Vieille Font (ancient water source), La Tour des Abbés, Montauban Castle... Fontvieille stone, olives, virgin olive oil and A.O.C. wines, Provençal fabric, Santons etc....
